Bernhard Eisel fährt 2012 für Team Sky
Die Entscheidung, für welches Team der steirische Radprofi Bernhard Eisel 2012 fahren wird, ist gefallen!
Der 30-jährige hat zusammen mit Mark Cavendish, Radweltmeister 2011, einen Zweijahres-Kontrakt beim britischen Radsportteam Sky Procycling unterzeichnet. Damit wird das Erfolgsduo der letzten Jahre auch weiterhin gemeinsam Rennen bestreiten.
Team Sky wurde 2009 gegründet, bestreitet erst seit dem Jahr 2010 Straßenrennen.
Hauptsponsor des Teams ist British Sky Broadcasting.Erklärtes Teamziel ist, innerhalb von fünf Jahren den ersten britischen Tour de France-Sieger hervorzubringen. Fahrer wie Bradley Wiggins, Juan Antonio Flecha, Edvald Boasson Hagen oder Michael Rogers fahren für Sky.
Eisel: “Ich bin sehr glücklich mit dieser Entscheidung! Ich hatte eine großartige Zeit bei HTC-Highroad, doch als ich von der Schließung erfuhr, musste ich mich um andere Möglichkeiten umsehen. Das Sky-Team war dabei immer einer meiner Favoriten. Die tollen teaminternen Strukturen und die professionelle Arbeitsweise waren für mich ausschlaggebend. Fakt ist zudem, dass ich weiterhin mit Cav (Anm. Mark Cavendish) fahren wollte. Wir funktionieren als Duo perfekt und freuen uns deshalb auf weitere gemeinsame Jahre. Meine Aufgaben bei Sky werden grundsätzlich unverändert bleiben. Natürlich wird der Fokus vor allem auf Cav liegen, ihn zu beschützen, ihn in die Sprints zu führen. Meine persönlichen Ambitionen liegen dann bei den Frühjahresklassikern”.
Auch Sky-Teamchef Dave Brailsford freut sich über die Verpflichtung: “Bernhard ist einer der respektiertesten und hart arbeitensten Männer im Peloton und exakt der Menschentyp den wir in unserem Team haben wollten. Er verfügt über sehr viel Routine und hat einen coolen, überlegten Kopf. Vor allem unsere jungen Fahrer können sehr viel von ihm lernen. Bernhard ist als perfekter, ehrlicher Teamplayer bekannt, aber auch in der Lage selbst Rennen für sich zu entscheiden. Der optimale Mann also für unseren Rennstall.”
Eisel joins Team Sky
“I’m really happy. I’ve had a great time with HTC-Highroad but at soon as I heard the team was folding I knew I would have to explore other possibilities and Team Sky were right at the top of my list. The biggest thing that attracted me to them was the structure they have in place and everything that happens behind the scenes. Everything is catered for the riders and I think that’s the perfect way to run a professional cycling team. The fact that I wanted to stay with Cav was also a major factor and we’re both happy that we will now have more years ahead of us. “My main job will be keeping him protected leading into the sprints, but the spring Classics are also very important to me and I’ll be looking to ride well in them. If I can secure a ride in the Tour de France that will be great as well. I have ridden the last eight Tours and finished them all, and next year is my 12thseason as a professional so I’d like to think I have the experience to be able to contribute to the team”, Bernhard said.
Team Sky Principal, Dave Brailsford: “Bernhard is one of the most hard-working and respected riders in the peloton and is exactly the type of guy we have been looking to bring to the team. He’s a natural leader with a cool, calm head – in the same mould of Juan Antonio Flecha and Mathew Hayman – and will also be able to take charge of things on the road. “The younger guys will be able to learn a lot from him and we expect him to adopt a senior role within the squad. He’s the consummate team player but is also capable of winning races himself and his versatility will be a massive boost to the team.”
